Two Great Britain Olympic Volleyball players are due to play against Tendring’s Mens team on Saturday 20 October. Ben Pipes who captained the Great Britain side in the London 2012 Olympics just 3 months ago, will be playing for Wessex. He has decided to concentrate on the Beach form of the game in order to try and play in the Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games in 2016, which has led him to take a job based in Bournemouth. Appearing alongside Ben Pipes will be Dan Hunter who played Libero (a defensive based position) during the Olympics and led much of the passing and defensive stats during the games. Despite his performance, he has struggled to find a professional club and has headed back to his home town of Bournemouth.
The two clubs have a long history of competition at a junior level, regularly meeting in National Finals, but this encounter will be the first at a senior level. Both teams have a realistic chance of winning the division and this match will provide an early lead at the top of the table for one of them.
Thousands of spectators paid £50.00 - £250.00 to
watch these Olympic stars, but you can see them play for free in your
own Sports Hall.
