The Year 8’s played in the first round of the Essex Cup on Tuesday 2nd October and they gave a very good account of themselves.
The ‘new look’ team gelled well together and were ably captained by Tom Williams. There were sterling performances all round, but particularly by centre backs Charlie Campbell and Steven Vaughan. With the advantage of the wind and slight downhill in the first half, TTC went in at half time 2-0 up thanks to goals from Anthony Spyrou and Tom Williams – both cracking finishes with Spyrou’s almost breaking the net from some 20 yards out!
Stanway had the advantage in the second half, but only just took it to extra time right at the end of normal time. So, it was 2-2 with 5mins (each way) extra time and penalties looming. However, a corner right on the stroke of half time by Mulqueen led to a goal mouth scramble and decisive TTC goal from Patrick Dixon. The second half passed without too many issues which meant TTC were through to the next round of the Cup.
