Essex Cup 1st Round

Tendring Technology College Year 7 team’s first round opponents were Helena Romanes. Our team had only had one training session together and were nervously excited about their first game with new teammates. The team started strongly, passing well and allowing people to gain confidence with touches on the ball. After retaining possession for the first few minutes of the game a through ball was played and Reuben Mudd opened the scoring with a calm finish into the bottom corner. The positive start settled a few nerves and the team began to enjoy the challenge. The focus in the warm up had been in retaining possession and this paid off with Tendring happy playing simple passes or spreading the ball across the pitch. Tendring were dominating in midfield with captain Jonny Allen and Tom Gray all making strong runs towards the opposition goal. This provided plenty of opportunities throughout the game with both strikers taking advantage. Reuben Mudd ended up scoring three goals with Freddie Fowle and Louis Crick also contributing to the score sheet. On the rare occasions that the Tendring team was on the defensive, the back four looked solid with particularly strong performances from Lewis Winter and Aaron Muckle ensuring that the clean sheet was never under threat. Throughout the entire game the attack and defence were linked by the excellent play of ‘Man of the Match’, Mason Lumley. He continually chose the correct options for passing and won possession back to start new attacks. Overall it was a great start to the season and we wish the boys luck for the next round.
