On Thursday 20th September, seven students from Tendring Technology College met up with students from Clacton Coastal Academy to take part in making a short instructional video for the English Cricket Board. The ‘Howzat’ video will be shown to trainee coaches throughout England and Wales so that they can learn new ways to get children engaged and involved in cricket.
The day was split into two sections, where we spent time batting, fielding and being creative. All of this was caught on camera by an ECB film crew. In the time we spent on batting, we looked at building a good stance, keeping the ball on the ground and directional batting. We did this using a series of drills explained to us by our ECB certified coach. When we moved onto fielding we focused on catching, throwing and interception. We did this by splitting into three groups, with each group coming up with an idea for an activity that focused on one of the three points. All three groups then tried the other’s activities and gave feedback on their ideas.
The day was extremely good fun and I hope the ECB got some great footage. Thanks to the ECB, Academies Enterprise Trust and Mr Clements for organising the event and letting us have the opportunity to be involved.
