On Sunday 13 September 2015 we took a group of seventeen Year 10 students to London to watch the London Legacy Volleyball Cup. This was a tournament held between four men's teams and four womens teams. The event was held at the iconic Copper Box at the Olympic Park.
We arrived at 11.30am to find one of the matches in full swing. During the day we watched the following teams play:
The four matches we got to watch were incredible and the students were quite overwhelmed when it came to watching some of the games. The sheer scale of the event and the huge statures of the players was an experience to remember!
We were fortunate enough to meet several of the Team GB Volleyball squad including Maria Bertelli, Rachel Laybourne, Nathan French and Pete Bakare. Many a photo was taken and autograph signed!
Two of our students had an opportunity to get involved as assistants for the final match and spent the match watching from courtside!
The whole day was a great experience and quite inspirational for the students involved. We hope to run several more trips during the year similar to this one so keep an eye out for these!
I would like to thank both Ms Mankee and Ms Bysouth for their help on the day. Without the support of colleagues like them it would be impossible for trips like this to go ahead.
