International Chemistry Olympiad Success

posted 16 Apr 2015, 04:47 by kbetteridge@tendringtechnologycollege.org

In February, six students from Year 13 - Robert Church, Craig Boyd, Leigh Herrington-Doe, Vinny Gribbin, Jack Goswell and George Nunn - entered round 1 of the selection process for the UK team to take part in the International Chemistry Olympiad.

This involved a gruelling 2 hour examination, asking questions not only on material commonly studied at A-level but material well beyond their normal studies.  In order to prepare for the exam, for the past few months, the students have given up their free time to practise the knowledge and skills needed.

This competition is only entered by the top chemistry students from across the UK and is designed to stretch very able students in their chemical knowledge and understanding.

I am very happy to announce that George Nunn was awarded a Silver certificate and Bronze certificates were awarded to Craig Boyd, Leigh Herrington-Doe, Vinny Gribbin and Jack Goswell, placing them all very highly in such a competitive field.  This is a great reward for all their hard work.
