Ethos and Overview


We aim to enable our students:

  • To develop their full potential through reading and understanding.
  • To help shape their own future by developing appropriate skills in communication of the written and spoken word.


  • To develop in each student knowledge and awareness of English Language and literature, a competence in communication through the study and appreciation of the English Literacy Heritage.
  • To help equip each student with the best possible communication skills in preparation for their life beyond school.
  • In a creative atmosphere of study and discussion to reinforce the positive spiritual and moral values that will help them make a positive contribution to the world beyond school.
  • To encourage a pro active relationship between school, student and parents, fostering a positive attitude to English both at home and school.

GCSE English Resit

Students who do not achieve a 'C' grade in GCSE English in Year 11, have the opportunity to resit in Year 12.

Year 12 GCSE English Resit takes place in the November of Year 12 and in the summer exam season, if a second sitting is required.
