Design and Technology
Ethos and Overview

The Technology Department at the College is one of the most successful departments in Essex. This is down to the enthusiasm of the staff which reflects the excellent GCSE and A level results. We have been awarded Technology College status which has enabled us to develop new technologies including excellent computers in all DT design rooms and CAD software to enable students to design and develop outstanding coursework across all key stages. We also have new technology available for all students with the best computer Aided Manufacture facilities on both sites.

Our GCSE results over the past ten years have been outstanding. We continue to move in an upward direction with GCSE results, with an average over the last three years of 69% achieving A* - C grade and an average of 20% achieving A*/A. Students can choose their GCSE in Design & Technology from Food Technology, Product Design, Resistant Materials, Systems & Control and Textiles.

We have one of the largest intakes of Technology A level students in North Essex, with an average over the last 3 years of 40 students in Year 12 and 40 in Year 13, studying Product Design, Resistant Materials, Systems & Control and Textiles. The Technology Department again continue to achieve some very good results at AS and A2. Over the last 4 years we have achieved grade 2 using the ALPs data, this shows Tendring Technology College as achieving excellent results against all colleges in the country (top 10%).
