It was Monday 29 April and the Tendring Technology College robotics team, BOT, (Beasts of Tendring), departed from school to compete at the 2013 Toyota PIC Challenge. The challenge involves using an autonomous robot to intelligently solve random mazes with sophisticated algorithms. This was the team’s second attempt at the competition; we competed last year and came second due to unforeseen technical difficulties moments before the challenge. This year we hoped to win!
During the testing, before the real run, the robot had some problems with small gaps, which it was getting stuck in and the team began losing confidence. Thankfully on the real run the robot performed exceptionally. It completed the maze one hundred percent of the time over three runs in exceptionally fast times! We were the only team to complete the maze and henceforth we earned a well deserved 1st place victory! We won £250 for the school and have been invited to compete in the 2013 National Finals in 2 weeks time!
Team Members: Conor Williams, Matthew Wolton, Elizabeth Lorrimer-Roberts, Faye Randall and Molley Harriott.
The team would like to say a big thank you to Mr Clapson and Mr Fisher for organising and mentoring them over the last year.
